The Grasshopper Kindergarten (GDGH) represents a design community based in Bucharest, Romania, founded in june 2012 by the architects Andrei Ivanescu and Laurentia Ghita.
Under the motto :“Learn, Play, Create”, GDGH started with organising a set of parametric design workshops for architecture students, teachers and young professionals, with the purpose of developping the first community of computational design in Bucharest. We see this mission as a purely Romanian initiative, derived directly from the needs of local practice.
Therefore, the emphasis is on reuse of materials and objects, low-budget experimenting with simple materials and adaptation to local conditions and
improvisation, all these seen in a new perspective given by the techniques of
digital fabrication (3D Printing, CNC Milling, Laser Cutting, etc.)
The workshops are organized based on three levels of knowledge : Rhino Beetle,
based on basic 3D modeling in Rhino, Young Grasshopper, where participants
learn to design and optimize their work using parametric tools, and Supafly Butterfly, where we add the interactive dimension using Arduino.
